On Foundations

Just got home from Treasured Foundation 2004 and I thought I'd share some of the thoughts that passed through this head...

The theme was "Go Deep or Go Home" and our speaker (Don Talle) tied that to the foundation theme very well. First of all, he said to get any height on a building, you have to first have a deep foundation... so you have to go deep. Then, the benefits of going deep are the three unshakables: Unshakable faith, unshakable hope, and unshakable love. All three are, of course, obtained by going deep into the character of Christ.

The greatest part of the whole thing was that Don was a great example of this himself. See, he's got some rare muscle disorder that will keep him weak for his whole life. He was supposed to die by 10 yrs old, but he's now 35. But instead of focusing on what could have been, he focuses on faith, hope, and love and becoming like Christ. Here's someone who has to practice what he preaches or else he would be very, very depressed all the time. It's encouraging to see that people are capable of not giving in to depression and of holding on to Jesus.

Interesting fact: the foundation of the Chicago Sears Tower goes so deep that you could almost fit the entire Statue of Liberty under the building... only the torch would stick out into the lobby.
